From provocative presentations to meaningful dialogue to laughter and game play, the 2022 Symposium was a big success! Over the course of 4 days, we hosted close to 160 presentations from 100 organizations representing 25 countries. With our sincere appreciation to all those who attended, including the generous support from sponsors.

November 1, 2022 – mEducation Alliance Member Day hosted at the World Bank

  • An invite-only and unique opportunity for Alliance Members to engage  in dialogue with each other.

November 2 – 3, 2022The Symposium at United States Institute of Peace (USIP)

Wondrous Learning is…! workshops were spread around Washington. D.C. at Alliance member and other friendly institutions.

Ann Friedman, Founder and CEO, Planet Word

Planet Word is the only museum in the country dedicated to renewing and inspiring a love of words and language. It opened in 2020 in downtown D.C. as a new kind of interactive and self-guided museum and is simply WONDERFUL! We were delighted that Ann was our Symposium keynoter on the morning of November 2nd. 

Mehtab Ali – Program Manager, The Learning Agency (Representing Schmidt Futures) 

Mehtab Ali has a background in education and program management. She has worked with a nonprofit organization on early childhood programs in order to increase equity and access to quality early learning experiences. During our closing session on November 2nd, Mehtab highlighted prior winners and experiences of the Learning Engineering Tools Competition and previewed the focus of this year’s competition (Deadline of Nov. 20th).

Alexis Bonnell, Senior Business Executive and the Emerging Technology Evangelist for Public Sector at Google

Alexis Bonnell kicked us off the morning of November 3rd. Over her career in communications, management and innovation, Bonnell has created programs, narratives and campaigns that have engaged millions of people to take action and create change. Previously served as the Chief of Applied Innovation & Acceleration in the U.S. Global Development Lab, of USAID, one of the premier Innovation Labs in the development industry, that she helped create in 2014.

David Barth, Vice President of International Programs, Save the Children US

With over 25 years of experience in international development and humanitarian relief, David Barth leads Save the Children US’s international work, serving children in over 100 countries.  Focused on helping all children learn, survive, and be protected, David and team focus on those who have suffered from exclusion and discrimination. Prior to joining Save, David served as Director of the Ford Foundation’s Youth Opportunity and Learning Division. This followed a decorated career with USAID, where he held a number of senior positions.

Dr. Stefanie MilamWebb Deputy Project Scientist for Planetary Science, NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center

Dr. Stefanie Milam started the evening reception on November 3rd. She spoke about the launch, deployment, and first science images of the James Webb Space Telescope, and how these “wondrous” advancements can inspire the next generation — and infuse S.T.E.M. education in the years to come.

Jax Chaudhry

Jax Chaudhry leads Project Invent, a national nonprofit that empowers youth with future ready mindsets for individual success and global impact, through invention. Originally from the Southside of Chicago, Jax loves working with students, families and partners to ensure every student can attain success as they define it. For more than 10 years, she has worked with elementary schools, high schools, education nonprofits and led regional teams and operations to ensure student success.

Michael Leventhal

Kenneth Y T Lim operates at the intersection of neuroergonomics, the learning scienceMichael Leventhal is co-founder of RobotsMali, a pedagogical and AI4D laboratory and STEM education center in Bamako, Mali. RobotsMali has trained thousands of students from elementary school to high school in computer science, robotics, and artificial intelligence, coached national robotics teams that have won 32 medals in international competitions, and developed technologies using AI and robotics for the social and economic development of Mali. Before becoming an educator in Mali, Michael worked as a technologist in Silicon Valley.s, and cognitive psychology. In 2023, he and his team were identified by UNESCO to share their work on the affordances of Generative AI for meaningful teaching and learning, during UNESCO’s first annual flagship event Digital Learning Week, international forum on the implications of Generative AI for education, in the session on ‘Preparing students and teachers for responsible use of AI’.

Enouce Ndeche

Enouce Ndeche is the founder and Director of Vijana Amani Pamoja ,VAP a community scheme based in Nairobi Kenya that uses the power and the popularity of the game of soccer/football as a catalyst for social, educational and economic empowerment.Enouce holds a degree in sociology from Egerton university and he is also the 2020 individual award recipient “Diversity and Inclusion Eminent Leader Award Enouce is also a certified Sports Philanthropy and Executive, George Washington University and is a 2023 Gratitude Network fellow.

Kenneth Y T Lim
